Long-Term Running Goals:

I love to run!  I want to feel good and run for a very long time.

Personal:

My husband Brent and I live in Orem with our three kids ages 12, 10 & 7.  Brent is a Marriage and Family Therapist and I'm at home with the kids.  I used to be a CPA, but now I just do a little bookkeeping from home.  For a lot of years running a marathon was something I did to get back in shape after having a baby.  Just finishing was accomplishment enough, now I want to finish faster.

I ran the St. George Marathon in 3:18 when I was 18 and set a record for my age division 15-18.  Now I train with the girl who broke my record.  I love the marathon and half marathon.   Long runs are what keep me from going crazy.

~~Saturday morning I ran 20 miles.  Melanie and I met at Gold’s Gym on 800 North in Orem to run up/down Provo Canyon.  Marie and Dessiree came with us for the first 5 miles.  I felt so tired right from the start.  Melanie got way ahead of me and I caught up to her on the water stops.  We went on the trail until just before Bridal Veil.  Then there were signs saying avalanche control was using explosives in the next 24 hours and the trail was closed.  We went out on the highway and up into South Fork.  When we got to Vivian Park there were several highway patrol cars and officers heading down the trail.  We ran up South Fork, but not quite as far as we planned.  It started to snow and became very cold.
When I got back to our drinks at Vivian Melanie was ready to start running again.  I told her to go ahead and that I wanted to stretch.  She took off down the highway and I stretched for a couple of minutes.  As I got out to the highway a man my and “Incident Management” truck across the street yelled to me and said, “You can’t run down there, we’re shutting down the highway to bomb the mountain.”  I could see cars still coming up and knew I would be stuck there for a long time if I stopped so I said, “I’ll hurry,” and took off running.
About a ½ mile later a highway patrol car pulled up next to me and the patrol man said, “I need to drive you down the highway about a mile.  We’ve got explosives all ready to bomb the mountain and we’re shutting down the highway.”  I got in the car and mentioned my friend was running up ahead.  He said she was in the other patrol car.  They dropped us off at the turnoff to Bridal Veil.  We continued down the canyon on the trail to the gym.  I felt so tired.  I had a hard time running as fast as I thought I should.  We finished up on the treadmills at the gym.  Melanie did 22 miles and I quit at 20.
