Long-Term Running Goals:

I love to run!  I want to feel good and run for a very long time.

Personal:

My husband Brent and I live in Orem with our three kids ages 12, 10 & 7.  Brent is a Marriage and Family Therapist and I'm at home with the kids.  I used to be a CPA, but now I just do a little bookkeeping from home.  For a lot of years running a marathon was something I did to get back in shape after having a baby.  Just finishing was accomplishment enough, now I want to finish faster.

I ran the St. George Marathon in 3:18 when I was 18 and set a record for my age division 15-18.  Now I train with the girl who broke my record.  I love the marathon and half marathon.   Long runs are what keep me from going crazy.

18 miles down Provo Canyon from Wallsburg with Melanie.  I was so worried I wouldn't even be able to do this run after how bad I felt the day before.  I ran with Melanie until our water stop at mile 2.  I felt like I was limping down the hill to the water because my whole leg ached.  But 2 miles was progress because the day before I didn't even make it 1 before I had to stop.  I took a long time stretching and Melanie headed off running.  I felt a lot better the next 2 miles, but stretched again anyway.  After that my leg felt good and I only stopped at our drinks at mile 6, 10 and 14, and a quick bathroom stop on the side of the road at mile 15.5.  I like having the drinks every 4 miles instead of 3.

At mile 6 I felt my blood sugar drop and realized I didn't eat enough the day before and should have had some breakfast.  I took a gu and kept going.  I felt pretty bad at mile 8 but kept going.  I could run 8 miles mostly uphill to the car or 10 miles mostly downhill to the other car and downhill sounded better.  We left more drinks at mile 14.  I drank a whole 16 oz full strength gatorade and 1/2 a water bottle.  I felt like I was going to vomit for about a 1/2 mile but after that I felt a lot better.  My legs just got really tired because that was far for me.  I stretched and drove down the road to pick up Melanie who was running 21.  My average pace was 6:56.
