Long-Term Running Goals:

I love to run!  I want to feel good and run for a very long time.

Personal:

My husband Brent and I live in Orem with our three kids ages 12, 10 & 7.  Brent is a Marriage and Family Therapist and I'm at home with the kids.  I used to be a CPA, but now I just do a little bookkeeping from home.  For a lot of years running a marathon was something I did to get back in shape after having a baby.  Just finishing was accomplishment enough, now I want to finish faster.

I ran the St. George Marathon in 3:18 when I was 18 and set a record for my age division 15-18.  Now I train with the girl who broke my record.  I love the marathon and half marathon.   Long runs are what keep me from going crazy.

I took my son to his pediatrician and also made a Dr. apointment for me.  We have ongoing problems with our sinuses, and we both get sick at the same time.  The doctor thinks we have allergies!  (That are causing sinus infections) I spent all day considering this as a possibility and I think he's right.  I went for 6 months all through the winter without problems (thought I was cured), then in March it all started up again.

I thought about the times when I was sick and not sick.  It's always worse on Saturday's after my long runs (up the canyon around the weeds) and the only time I can remember not feeling like I was struggling with a stuffy/runny nose off and on was when I was on vacation and during the times when we had a lot of rain.  I think I felt so bad this week because Saturday I did my run up South Fork, spent all afternoon on the grass at the park and the evening out at a golf course.  Couldn't breath when I went to bed.  Monday I spent hours at Temple Square around the grass and flowers and the evening at a reception at a green house.  That night I could hardly breath out of my nose again and the next morning I felt sick.  We also open all our windows at night to let the canyon wind cool the house off, which the doctor said is a bad thing to do with allergies.

Now I'm on a nasal spray.  I really hope I can figure out a way to control this because I'm so sick of feeling sick, especially in the summer.  No more opening windows, cut back on running up the canyon, etc.  This really sucks because I love the outdoors.

sorry about the allergies. not fun. have you ever tried clearing out your sinuses with a neti pot?

That does suck. But maybe you and your son are allergic to each other. That would be great because that would mean you could spend more time in the outdoors!

allie - I thought you told me to use pot for my sinuses.

I would go to Dr. Remington and NIP those allergies in the bud with low dose antigen therapy or NAET therapy. THEY BOTH SERIOUSLY WORK. He is reasonable. Takes some insurances but don't pay for low dose or NAET but I am telling YOU miracles have happened for a lot of my friends who have gone there and I have been for my perfume allergies and I am tons better. SERIOUSLY he knows what he is talking about, sometimes seeming cooky but he is a chemist and studied how food/allergens contribute to disease of all sorts. Good luck. Don't give up for a better solution then nasal sprays.

I have been clearing out my sinuses with salt water for months. I'm actually wondering if I even have a sinus infection right now. It might just be the allergies. The nasal spray is helping with the stuffyness and I'm trying Allavert (same as Cleratin) to dry me up. I will keep Dr. Remington in mind.
