Long-Term Running Goals:

I love to run!  I want to feel good and run for a very long time.

Personal:

My husband Brent and I live in Orem with our three kids ages 12, 10 & 7.  Brent is a Marriage and Family Therapist and I'm at home with the kids.  I used to be a CPA, but now I just do a little bookkeeping from home.  For a lot of years running a marathon was something I did to get back in shape after having a baby.  Just finishing was accomplishment enough, now I want to finish faster.

I ran the St. George Marathon in 3:18 when I was 18 and set a record for my age division 15-18.  Now I train with the girl who broke my record.  I love the marathon and half marathon.   Long runs are what keep me from going crazy.

I run with my brother on Mon & Fri only 4 miles.  These are the only runs he does all week and if I don't go then he doesn't go.

Went 6 with some friends then 4 more at a little faster pace.

This was a good workout: 1 mile warm-up, 4 miles at a faster pace, 1 mile slower, 4 miles faster, then a four mile cool down.  My second 4 mile loop was a little faster than my first which was encouraging.  I sas just going to go 2 miles cool down, then I ran into my sister and did two more with her.  She's pretty slow right now because she just had a baby.

Did a 7 mile hilly trail run with friends in Provo.  I wanted to go farther so I ran another 7 miles home.  I felt really tired on my way home, like I was in a bad dream and couldn't move my body very fast or like I'd all of the sudden put on 30 lbs.

Same as last Wednesday: 1 mile warm-up, 4 miles loop faster pace, 1 mile slower, 4 mile loop faster, 3 mile cool down.  My 4 mile loops were a little slower this week.  Not enough sleep I guess and my achillies is hurting some from the hills on Saturday.

Was going to go more, but my right achillies and left shin are bother me.  Stretched real good and tried to rub the tightness out of the muscles.  I think my tight calves are causing this problem.

My brother is out of town so I went with my sister who just had a baby.  This was a real easy run, but fun to visit with her because she lives in Arizona and is just here for a few weeks.

Hey don't let that shin get bad, if you need some help with it let me know (I am a massage therapist). Hopefully I will be back out soon and we can run together again. My back is starting to allow me to run alittle and is getting better. Hope to run with you soon.

Ran the "Earn your turkey run" in Orem a 4 mile race in 25:37 for a 6:24 pace.  Finished 8th overall and 1st in age group.  My 2 year old was very excited about her race telling everyone, "I'm going to run my marathon."  Then as the crowd gathered she became nervous and when they yelled "go" she sat down and cried.  We ended up walking her race.  My two boys ran well and finished in the middle to upper 1/3 of their races.  They're at the young end of their groups this year.

Great job Julie, when you enter race reports there is a little box you can check to make it a race report and then it will track you races. Hope the shin is feeling better, if not call me silly girl.

Ran 12 easy miles up Hobble Creek Canyoon with Michelle Lowry.  I enjoyed running with her and like the trail there.  I've never been on it before.  My leg felt fine while I was running, but hurt later on in the day.

I tied the wrong key to my shoe when I got out of my car so my  husband had to come give me a key.  I only had to wait about 10 minutes, but was freezing and took a long time to get warm again.  I'll pay more attention to which key I'm taking off the ring next time.

I was frustrated by my shin splint.  I ran 1 mile warm-up then my 4 mile loop fast then another mile slow.  I wanted to do this two or three times, but quit after 1, decided more might worsen my injury.

I stood in some old milk buckets of cold water to ice my legs.  These were the big medal milk buckets my dad used when he milked cows as a teenager.  They're probably considered antique by now, but they work really well to ice legs.

I've decided to go back to only running 5 days a week.  Every time I run 6 days a week I get injured.

I ran 6 miles with some friends at a medium pace, was 7 for me with the distance to and from my house to meet up with them.  Then I ran 4 miles at a faster pace and did a mile cooldown.  I iced my legs and they feel ok now, but I'm taking tomorrow off anyway.

Julie,

I know I am commenting on a December entry, but I really wanted to congratulate you on your race Saturday. I saw you go by just before the finish line and you were looking strong. Way to go on completing another great race. Are you running TOU this year? I would love to run with you again :)

Best of luck with your training.

Allie Scott
