Long-Term Running Goals:

I love to run!  I want to feel good and run for a very long time.

Personal:

My husband Brent and I live in Orem with our three kids ages 12, 10 & 7.  Brent is a Marriage and Family Therapist and I'm at home with the kids.  I used to be a CPA, but now I just do a little bookkeeping from home.  For a lot of years running a marathon was something I did to get back in shape after having a baby.  Just finishing was accomplishment enough, now I want to finish faster.

I ran the St. George Marathon in 3:18 when I was 18 and set a record for my age division 15-18.  Now I train with the girl who broke my record.  I love the marathon and half marathon.   Long runs are what keep me from going crazy.

4 miles with my brother at 7:49 pace.  It was very discouraging to be breathing so hard and feeling so tired running at that pace.  The pain I've been having behind my knee didn't bother me while I ran, but still bothers me a little at other times in the day when I move certain ways.  My achilles only hurt a little off and on during the run, but bothered me the rest of the day, which was also discouraging.  Oh, and the inch I can usually pinch around my middle is now two inches!  That's discouraging too.

Hey Julie. Don't worry. I know you want to be right back at it but it will be worth the time you take off. Just look at MichelleL. She took almost a year off, I think. It takes time and you have lots of running friends that will gladly run slower with you than your used to :D. Also MelanieB is also struggling with a back injury. You should blog her. She is also very down. Cheer up though. Spring is upon us and with it a breath of sunshine to motivate us and heal us. Are you doing some yoga? or at least having some "yoga moments" of visualization of healing? I think that helps too.

Hi Julie, the pain behind the knee is probably your hamstring. I have had a lot of success with ART (active release techniques) - I like when the ART person is also a DC, but not all the good ones are. The closest one to you is in Park City:

Namaste Chiropractic LLC

Dr. Jennifer Hasselbrook, DC

If you have any family or friends in Phoenix, there is a GREAT one there -- he pretty much specializes in runners and people come from all over the country to see him. This stuff really works ... usually in 1-5 visits.
